Research

The NWSFTCP has been investigating the biology of flatback turtles (life cycle, genetics, nesting, migration and health) and the impacts of threats on this species for 15 years.

Monitoring

Annual monitoring of flatback turtle populations occurs across Western Australia’s Pilbara and Kimberley regions, identifying population trends through track counting, tagging and nest excavations.

Expert advice

Expert advice is provided to external stakeholders by the NWSFTCP about flatback turtle impacts and protection. This includes advice on legislation and policy, local council planning and to numerous governance bodies.

Education and communication

The NWSFTCP engages with schools across Western Australia, communities living near flatback turtles and across a range of media to promote and improve conservation outcomes.
